[ Manipulation ] The Manipulation Rune is one of those special Runes that most Dreadnoughts don't bother with because they only see the face value. Much to their chagrin, those who do get it realize that the little things can sometimes be more important than superhuman fighting ability. This series is the first of the so called 'Thieves Runes', which give Dreadnoughts the ability to do some amazing things, if they'll just take the time to develop their powers. The Manipulation Rune is symbolized by a single open hand, facing up, which appears on the forearm of the Dreadnought. This represents openness, and Dreadnought's willingness to be friendly and forthright with everyone they encounter. If you hadn't guessed, this is a bold faced lie which is hidden right in the open, fitting for the Delegates. The Manipulation Rune gives several benefits to the Dreadnought who takes it. First, their Manipulation Rating goes up by one for every level they get in this Rune. Second, they gain a new ability called Disguise. Disguise is pretty self explanatory, so I won't bother detailing it here. Your disguises have a certain percentage rate of working. The percentage rate is based on your level in the Manipulation Rune x 20%. Level 1: Tall tail- The first thing this Rune gives you is the ability to tell open lies, albeit little ones, and have people believe them. This only works on people who don't know you very well. Level 2: Lie detector- This power gives you the ability to tell when other people are lying to you. When someone tells you a lie, there will be a little buzzing sound in the back of your head. A very useful power indeed. Level 3: Fast Talk- This level of the Rune gives you the ability to talk in a way that people will not be able to keep up with your line of reasoning. When people get confused, it's much easier to get them to do what you want. Once you have them confused with your fast talking, if you slow down a bit, they'll be more receptive to the next things you say. (IE: "So you see, I woke up this morning, put the money in my pocket… (two minutes of blurred, meaningless fast talk)… and that's why I accidentally walked out of your shop with that watch on my wrist…") Level 4: Dishonesty- This level of the Rune gives you the ability to discount anyone else's version of the story. After you've told your side of the story, no one will believe the other persons version. Why? Because you have absolutely no reason, or ulterior motives, to lie. What could it possibly get you? Unless, of course, they have this Rune as well. Level 5: Possession is 9/10's of the Law- If you're wearing something, or if something comes into your possession, it's yours, for all intents and purposes, as long as no one actually sees you pick it up. If someone asks why you have it, any excuse you give will be believed, as long as it isn't too far fetched. This only works with things that do not specifically belong to someone else. IE: Items in a shop can be taken with little or no trouble, as long as they don't cost too much, and as long as no one sees you taking them or putting them on. You could not get away with stealing someone's sword or armor. [Stealth ] The Stealth Rune takes the Manipulation Rune Series to new levels of fun, giving the Dreadnought several new abilities, as well as some new powers that other Dreadnoughts do not have access to. The Stealth Rune is indicated by a slight shadowing of the Manipulation Rune. The first ability the Stealth Rune gives you is the ability to shadow walk, or in layman's terms, hide in the shadows. Secondly, this Rune gives you the ability to Sneak Attack someone, doing extra damage with a stabbing attack. The Third power it gives is the ability to detect things that are hidden, or masked so that people can't normally see them or find them. This includes traps, doors, switches, and panels. The fact that you can find them, does not necessarily mean that you can open them. This Rune also gives you one extra dice to roll for any manipulation based stat, per level. Level 1: Slip away- This level allows you to slip into the shadows, and conveniently disappear from sight for a few minutes. Movement is not allowed during this time, or you will be found. Note: Any form of night vision on the part of those looking for you negates this power instantly. Level 2: Ghost in the night- If there are shadows around, you can hide in them. This does not hide you from night vision, or energy searches, but it will keep normal people from seeing you. Level 3: Fly on the wall- This power is the first in the series that actually allows you to hide from those with night vision. You just look like a slightly darker shadow, probably cast by a tree or something. Level 4: Inaudibility- With this level, not only can people not see you, but they can't hear you either. This is very helpful when trying to sneak up on those damned animals. Level 5: Black out- This power gives you the ability to walk, talk, and breath Shadows. No matter how closely someone looks, they won't see you in the shadows. During the night, Dreadnoughts with this power just disappear altogether, and don't appear again till morning. Good if your trying to hide from someone, or do something covert. Bad if your injured, or trying to get help. [ Security ] The Security Rune is one of the few Runes that most Dreadnoughts do not get, but nonetheless, fear. To a Dreadnought with the Security Rune nothing is safe. They can open locks, bypass traps, and even get around surveillance equipment. On the other hand, the traps these individuals put in their own homes are nasty, and almost impossible to find. For some reason, they tend to be a little paranoid. The Security Rune is denoted by a little ring that appears on the Manipulation Rune. The ring appears to have been glued on. The Security Rune gives Dreadnoughts the following abilities, not necessarily in this order. First, is the ability to open locks, this does require a bit of studying under a professional locksmith. Second, is the ability to detect, and bypass traps. Third, is the ability to bypass, and or, take out surveillance equipment. This Rune also gives you one automatic success on any manipulation roll, any stealth roll, or on any security roll, per level. This only works with one stat at a time. Level 1: Rent a Cop- You can open the easy locks, bypass the cheap cameras, and get rid of those pesky kids traps. Level 2: Detective- You may have the law on your side, you may not. It doesn't matter, no one will know 'you' were there anyways. Sliding past the deadbolt, unhooking the alarm system, and then disabling the few traps they did set, was no sweat at all. Level 3: Spy- Opening safes, disabling the heat detectors, and slipping past the lasers proved to be no more trouble than resetting the combination on their time locks. Traps? What traps. Level 4: Cat burglar- No one can even tell that their stuff was rifled through, or that something's missing. The toughest traps and locks are child's play. Cameras? Oh yea, they're broadcasting reruns of last nights shows. Level 5: Who?- They should have known better than to have advertised that new bank as being the highest level of security every achieved. They'll find the diamonds sitting in a little pyramid, on the floor, in the middle of the directors office. Didn't I take anything? Of course, I've got the only copy of the new passwords to their computer system, alarm system, etc… [ Subterfuge ] Subterfuge is the ability to hide what your doing under a false mask of what you want people to think you're doing. This includes lying, covert ops, and infiltration. The Subterfuge Rune is represented by the entire Rune series slowly fading out of existence, and then slowly reforming every few minutes. Like the other Runes in this series, this Rune gives you a special ability that normal Dreadnoughts do not possess. The ability to steal peoples possessions using sleight of hand, this includes picking pockets. This Rune, unfortunately for now, only boosts your manipulation stat, your subterfuge rating, your stealth rating, and your security rating with two automatic successes per level. This can only be used on one of the stats at a time. |
