[ Sensory ] The Sensory Rune allows the user to alter their physical senses a little bit, getting them used to the way they can be altered, enhanced, or nullified. The Sensory Rune is represented by a human hand. These abilities only work on you. They cannot be used against other people. Level 1: This level affects your sense of touch, since it’s usually the one sense that you can actually see in action, it’s a lot easier to learn how to alter it. It allows you to enhance your sense of touch to the point where you can actually tell the difference between two similar items, merely by feeling the grain or pattern in them. It can also be used to completely nullify your sense of touch, this deadens all pain, and makes it very hard to walk, talk, or do anything. There is no fine control over how much of your body is affected by these powers. Level 2: This level affects your sense of smell. It can be used to enhance your sense of smell to the point where you can note the different pheromones coming from a person, or it can be negated altogether. Level 3: This level affects your sense of taste. It can be used to enhance the sense till you can tell what kind of bowl the food your eating was made in, or it can be negated. Level 4: This level affects your sense of hearing. It can be enhanced to the point where you can hear bats squeaking, or completely negated. Level 5: This level affects your sense of sight. It can be enhanced to the point where you can see the eyes of a gnat at 50 feet, or completely negated. [ Sensory Alteration ] The Sensory Alteration Rune is a lot like the Sensory Rune, except that it affects all the senses, at all of its levels. This rune actually has 5 separate sets of powers, making it one of the hardest runes to learn. Not only does it have 5 separate sets of powers, it also has 5 separate areas on the body where it appears. These will all be discussed under each Senses power list. Dreadnoughts who master this rune will find themselves immune to all sense related attacks, this includes blinding, deafening, etc. These abilities can be used on other people, not just yourself. [ Hearing/Sound ] Let’s start with the Hearing/sound producing section of the Rune. This is used to produce sounds, alter sounds, or negate them. These can range anywhere from a whisper so soft that nobody can hear it, to a roar so loud it shatters concrete. This section of the rune is represented by a set of squiggly lines that form on the front of the throat, usually right in front of the larynx, and by a twisted set of lines that weave their way down into the ear canal. As with almost all runes, these are not visible unless they are being used. With each level that you gain, not only can you produce the listed sounds, you may also safely hear them. Level 1: You may reproduce any sound normally within the range of the human voice. Or you may negate all sounds in that same range within your energy control radius, or around a single individual/thing. Level 2: You may reproduce any sound that is not within the range of the human voice, but only at normal volume. Or you may negate all sounds within that same range that fall inside your control area, or around up to 4 single beings/things. Level 3: You may reproduce, or negate, any sound at a slightly higher, or a slightly lower pitch, causing dogs to bark, or people to cover their ears. Up to 10 separate beings/things may be singled out for silencing. Level 4: You may reproduce, or negate, any sound at a level way above normal, or way below normal. This may cause glasses to break, the ground to shake, and animals to run. Up to 25 separate beings may be singled out for silencing. Level 5: You may reproduce, or negate, any sound at a level very high above normal, or way below normal. This may cause bones to shatter, structures to collapse, or ear drums to rupture. Up to 50 separate beings/things can be singled out for silencing. [ Vision ] Next, let’s take a look at the Vision Section of this Rune. It is used to see things that are normally too far away to be seen, too small to be seen, or that are only able to be picked up in a different light spectrum. It is also used to negate vision, both in yourself, and in others. It is represented by the outline of a third eye that forms either over, or under the Psionics and Mental Mastery Runes, and normally appears either horizontally at the top of the forehead, or vertically just above the bridge of the nose. While this part of the rune is in use, the third eye glows slightly as the energy is channeled into it. The eye will not open yet, and is not visible, like most runes, till it is being used. Each level has multiple values that are pertinent to it, the first is the distance you may see objects clearly at, the second is the magnification rating you gain to see smaller objects. The third rating is the type of spectrum that the Dreadnought can see into. This rune also gives the user special abilities when it comes to seeing in general. The fourth rating shows what the Dreadnought is capable of seeing through. This section of the rune may also be used to Negate Vision. Note, this does not work on machines, or devices that enhance vision, all other powers are affected. The spectrum listed is the one that can be negated from someone’s vision. Level 1: 1000 yards/ 25x/ Light/ Illusions, including Invisibility Level 2: 5000 yards/ 150x/ Darkness/ A single solid object up to one inch thick Level 3: 5 miles/ 500x/ Elemental/ Any one element of up to 4 feet in thickness. Or through up to 2 full feet, in total, whether it be a single object 2 feet thick or 12 objects 2 inches thick. Level 4: 200miles/ 2000x/ Spirit/ Any object up to 10 feet thick, with the same restrictions as above. Level 5: no limit/ no limit/ Energy/ No limit [ Touch ] The third section of this Rune that we’re going to look at, is the section on the sense of Touch. It is used to alter the ways things feel, the way people feel things, and the intensity of that feeling. This section of the rune is represented by a very intricate set of lines that weave in and out of the Dreadnoughts fingerprints. Each power is listed below, as usual, in the following format. The first thing listed is on what level you can feel things, i.e. cellular, molecular, etc… The second thing listed is what your touch can make someone else feel. And the third is how much you can change the feel of something. As with the other powers of this rune, anything that can be given, can also be taken away. In other words, any power that can be granted, can also be negated. Level 1: Normal/ Tingles/ wool to cotton Level 2: Granular/ Numbness/ wool to silk Level 3: Cellular/ Calmness, Comfortable/ burlap to silk Level 4: Molecular/ Pain/ steel wool to silk Level 5: Atomic/ Nothing/ steel wool to teflon [ Taste ] This section of the rune affects the sense of taste. It is represented by a set of lines that form on the tongue when it in use. This section gives the ability to detect poisons, acids, toxins, etc. It can also change the way food, or drinks, taste. Each level has two things listed after it, the first is the percent chance to detect poisons and toxins, and the second is how much you can change the way something tastes. I know this doesn’t seem like much, but imagine being able to change plain drinking water into something that tastes like chocolate milk, or a rice cake into a hamburger. Or changing someone you really don’t like’s food to taste like their dirty socks. The possibilities are nearly endless. Note that this does not change the texture of the food or drink, only the taste. Level 1: 20%, water to milk, hamburger to steak, minor changes. Level 2: 40%, water to soda, rice to steak, etc… Level 3: 60%, water to wine, liver to cake, etc… Level 4: 80%, water to fertilizer, steak to rubber, etc… Level 5: 100%, water to acid, steak to gasoline, etc… [ Smell ] This section of the rune is used to alter the sense of smell. It can be used to make things smell better, worse, or not at all. It can also be used to enhance the sense of smell, allowing you to track someone down like a bloodhound, or to tell who’s been in the room recently. This part of the rune is represented by a small set of lines that form under the nose. This section has no abilities listed under it, all of the abilities are available once you get past the first level. [ Sensory Shifting ] This rune allows the Dreadnought to shift either their senses, or someone else’s senses around. They could allow them to see via sound, feel via sight, or taste via touch. This rune incorporates the third eye, but does not cause it to open. Level 1: At this level a Dreadnought may shift one of their own senses for another, sight for hearing, etc. Or they may allow one sense to pick up something that one of the other senses normally does. Feel light, feel sound, etc. Level 2: At this level a Dreadnought can shift someone else’s senses around, one at a time, on only one person at a time. Or, they can cause one sense to pick up two separate things that it couldn’t before. Level 3: At this level a Dreadnought may target up to 10 individuals with a sensory shift. Or they may cause up to 3 senses to pick up things they couldn’t before. Smell darkness, Taste sound, feel smell. Level 4: At this level a Dreadnought may target up to 5 individuals with a sensory shift. Or they may cause two senses to pick up things they couldn’t before. Smell light and feel taste, for instance. Level 5: At this level a Dreadnought may target a sphere with a radius of 10 feet per level (that’s overall level) for a sensory shift. Or, they may shift all of the senses around, which will probably screw something up really badly. [ Awakening ] The Awakening Rune is used to awaken the fabled 6th senses in others, and in yourself. It is represented by the opening of the third eye that formed just above the Psionics and Mental Mastery Runes. This eye will not open unless the rune is used. This rune awakens the other sensory abilities of the mind, giving you, and others, certain senses that normal people only have in random flashes, or don't recognize as senses at all. Using this Rune requires intense mental concentration, and a willing subject who has to either be sitting still (very easy with hypnotism), or sleeping. All of the following powers work the same on others as they do for the Dreadnought. As a side note, this Rune can also be used to take away special senses, this can be done to a non-cooperative individual, but requires a contested roll of your willpower versus theirs. Each level gives certain senses that can be awakened, or put back to sleep, as the case may be. This is not a finished list… Level 1: Danger sense, or Heightened senses. Level 2: Alignment sense, Detect Lying and Truth. Level 3: Proximity sense (detects what's around you if you're blinded), Energy Usage sense. Level 4: Order/Chaos sense, Elemental Sense. Level 5: Life Sense, Death Sense, Detect Scrying. |
